In the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park you can find the Varkaankurunpolku, which is a 3.5 kilometer long easy route for the whole family. On the Varkaankurunpolku trail, you can walk along the stream on long trees. There is a hut and toilets halfway along the journey.

The route through the magical grove starts from Kellokas visitor center. This route is worth trying just because of the wonderful 200-year-old spruce trees.

Pirunkuru ravine

Pirunkuru trail climbs to the top of Kesänkitunturi in a beautiful fell landscape. The route is 8 kilometers long and a moderate effort. The outdoor trail starts from the Kesänkijärvi parking area, initially along the open forest, and after that you can climb towards the top of Kesänkitunturi. Be prepared for the climb to be rocky and steep.

When you reach the top, you can breath the world’s cleanest mountain air. There is a Tahkokuru hut on the route, and the return journey is an easy-to-walk road and paths. Be prepared for the fact that the weather can change quickly in the fells, so it’s good to be prepared for cold and rain even in summer.

Kesänkijärvi kierros

The Kesänkijärvi kierros is an easy outdoor trail about 5.6 km long. There are two piers along the tour, where you can rest and watch the scenery. On the nature trail there are signboards about the secrets of the taiga forest.

The route is easy to follow along the long trees and you can take a break at the shelter along the path. This route also starts from the Kesänkijärvi parking area and you can get to the route by following the green signs.

Kesänkijärvi accessible trail

This 3.4 kilometer long route is completely accessible and it also starts from the Kesänkijärvi parking area. Follow the 1.7 kilometer long stone ash trail to the barrier-free shelter and the same route to get back to the starting point. Kesänkijärvi is in the middle of the route, and the scenery is decorated with Kellostapuli and Kesänkitunturi.

Pallas-Ylläs hiking trail

For those looking for a challenge, the Pallas-Ylläs hiking trail is a wonderful experience. The route starts from the Pallastunturi nature center and you can get there by following the brown signs that say “Ylläs”. The end point can be found at Yllästunturi nature center.

This hiking trail is almost 69 kilometers long, where you can cover up to three fells. There are several well-maintained rest areas on the route, and camping is allowed near the rest areas. Take warm clothes, cooking utensils and things you need to stay overnight with you.
